Pura Beji is located in the beautiful landscape of Sangsit village, Bali, Indonesia, but this there are many more surprises here. It’s the largest temple of Northern Bali and one of the most ancient temples in the country.

While there is no clear historical data, experts claim the temple was built during the Majapahit Kingdom period in the 15th century. They say the temple was built even before the locals populated the area. Interestingly, the delicacy of carvings and designs on the walls is unusual even for the 15th century, but that’s the only popular theory in circulation.

The locals dedicated the temple to their goddess or spirit of rice fields and prosperity, Dewi Sri. IGoogle Map to Pura Tanah Lotn fact, the locals still visit the temple for worship, which could be a great viewing experience for travelers. The agriculture of rice fields is of utmost importance here, so the locals still keep the loyalty. The rice fields are also the cause for stone crafting design, which was limited to the natural world. Rice is an essential food ingredient, which explains the importance of the Beji Temple even today.

The temple is one of the best off-the-beaten-track attractions that are hardly ever full in travelers. Despite this, the Beji Temple can accommodate only a number of people, so make sure you get a long turn to wonder around.
