The Global Village Kafe in Lovina Beach Bali IndonesiaAbout:

What could be better than eating good food for a good cause? A meal at The Global Village Kafé is sure to fill your bellies and warm your hearts. The social venture, which opened in May 2013, serves delicious cuisines from at least a dozen countries and uses its profits to help Indonesians living in poverty.

Add brilliant Espresso-based coffee – reputed to be the best in Lovina, and possibly even Southeast Asia – reasonable prices and genuinely friendly staff into the mix, and it’s no surprise that tourists keep returning for more.

Don’t be fooled by its rustic exterior and surrounding lush greenery into thinking that this is just another BThe Global Village Kafe quiet spotalinese eatery.

The Global Village Kafé, set in a bamboo hut, is equal parts mellow and edgy. Its walls are painted in earthy tones and lined with portraits of great leaders and freedom fighters, including Mahatma Gandhi, Che Guevara and Nelson Mandela. Visitors have the option of wooden tables and chairs or comfy couches, which they can lounge on while leafing through a book from a free book exchange.

The café also has a handicraft gallery that features souvenirs for purchase – profits from these go to charity too.

Although portions at The Global Village Kafé are not the largest around, the food is of top quality. The following are some of the dishes and drinks that we would recommend.
Internatonal Food:
  • Egyptian Koshari: From the streets of Egypt, koshari consists of rice, beans and macaroni, topped with tomato garlic salsa, cheese and fried onions.
  •  Chicken/Fish Balti: Balti, said to have originated from the region of Baltistan in Kashmir, northern Pakistan, is a spicy curry that’s served in a flat-bottomed, double-handled steel wok. It is accompanied by unleavened bread and rice.
  •  Chicken Souvlaki: A popular type of Greek fast food, this dish features skewered chicken served with a Greek side salad.
Indonesian Food:
  •  Nasi Goreng: This fried rice dish is available in three options: vegetarian, with chicken or with seafood. It’s served with fried egg and prawn crackers.
  •  Satay: Diners can choose either fish or chicken satays, which aChicken Satay with rice at Global Village Cafe in Balire marinated in ingredients such as soy sauce and honey, skewered onto sticks and then grilled. The accompanying peanut sauce dip and rice make this a sweet, yet satisfying meal.
  • Chicken Rendang: Hailing from West Sumatra, this dish is a must try. The tender chicken is slow cooked in coconut milk and spices, including ginger, turmeric leaves, lemongrass, garlic, shallot and chillies, and served with rice.
  •  Cappucino at Global Village Cafe BaliCoffee: If there’s one drink The Global Village Kafé is loved for, it’s its coffee. The Espresso based coffees are brewed Italian-style and often accompanied by pretty latte art. Visiting at night? No problem! Switch up your choice to one of its famed liqueur coffees.
  • Mango Milkshake: This ultimate thirst-quencher is served chilled, perfect for a scorching day in Bali. It’s fresh to its very last drop.
  •  Bali Hai Draft Beer: You can’t visit Bali without sampling its beer. Bali Hai, a locally-brewed pale lager, is both smooth and refreshing, with a touch of sweetness.
